Biography

Chris Franks is a lecturer at the University of Southampton in the Life Sciences department. He serves as the Programme lead for the MSc Professional Practice Health Sciences and is the academic integrity lead for Health Sciences. Chris is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain. He contributes significantly to teaching, course design, and curriculum development within life sciences. His involvement includes supervising students across various programmes at different academic levels. Chris has a longstanding research interest focused on neuromuscular physiology, particularly in the electrophysiological characterization of synaptic function, functional genetics of synaptic transmission, and the functioning neural networks in model systems. He also studies optogenetic manipulation of neuromuscular function as critical determinants of muscle cell excitability.
