Biography

Chris Hardacre is a Professor of Chemical Engineering and Vice Dean of the School of Natural Sciences at the University of Manchester. He earned his B.A. in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1990, followed by a Ph.D. in 1994. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Chemical Engineers. After completing his Ph.D., he joined Queen’s University Belfast and became a Professor of Physical Chemistry in 2003 before moving to the University of Manchester in 2016. Over his career, he has been involved in collaborative research within the industrial sector, focusing on catalysis and ionic liquids. His group has made significant contributions to the understanding of catalytic processes, particularly in areas related to gas-liquid reaction mechanisms, biomass conversion, and clean energy conversion. With over 520 publications to his name and an h-index of 100, he has also been awarded multiple prizes for his work, including the Royal Society Chemistry Encouraging Innovation Award and the Andrew Medal from IChemE. Additionally, Hardacre is an elected member of the Royal Irish Academy and serves as a co-principal investigator for the UK Catalysis Hub. His research aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, addressing critical issues such as environmental sustainability and waste valorisation.
