Chris Hudson graduated from the University of Aston, UK in 1983 and practiced as an optometrist for six years before returning to Aston to complete his doctoral thesis in 1993. He was awarded the British Diabetic Association Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Manchester, UK, where he contributed to the clinical retina unit, focusing on developmental methods for assessing visual function, retinal thickness, retinal blood flow, and quantifying macular edema. In 1996, he joined the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, as an Assistant Professor in the Optometry School, leading the establishment of a new Optometry course in the UK. He became a Reader in Clinical Vision Science in 1999. In 2000, Chris joined the Faculty at the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo, and was promoted to Professor in 2007. He teaches physiology of the eye, diseases of the eye, and clinical optometry. Holding various appointments, he is a Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science, University of Toronto, and a Scientist at the Toronto Western Research Institute, among others. He directs retinal research at the University Health Network and has a strong research focus on non-invasive psychophysical imaging and blood flow assessments in the eye. His current work investigates the relationship between systemic markers, endothelial function, and retinal vascular reactivity in patients with diabetes and glaucoma.
