Dr. Chris Kalafatis

Biography

Chris Kalafatis is a Consultant Psychiatrist working at the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. He has developed clinical-academic NHS clinics focused on brain health and digital innovation, including the virtual NHS Brain Health Clinic. His work emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis through novel digital cognitive assessments that employ AI for high-resolution monitoring of individuals at a large population level. Chris's clinical interests include undiagnosed ADHD in adults, based on his experiences in both NHS and private medicine settings. He is dedicated to addressing the needs of neurodiverse patients who often face significant barriers in recognition and treatment of their conditions. Kalafatis is an early proponent of telemedicine and telepsychiatry, having established frameworks for virtual assessments in outpatient clinics since the early 2010s. His contributions have garnered national and international acclaim, and he has led numerous pharmaceutical trials in the context of dementia as part of King's College London. Additionally, he lectures on digital diagnostics and AI applications for older adults on a global scale and has provided advisory support to pharmaceutical companies regarding brain health and digital biomarkers. With over 15 years of experience in running memory services, he is also a member of the Ageing Research King's (ARK) Advisory Board, focusing on the development of biomarkers for neurocognitive disorders and strategies to support early diagnosis of Alzheimer's-related disorders.
