Biography

Chris Kortright is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Regina. His research is situated at the intersection of biology, politics, and economics, focusing particularly on the Anthropology of Science and the history of scientific practices. His ethnographic research at the International Rice Research Institute (2008-2010) investigated the political economy and the Malthusian narratives embedded in experimental agricultural practices aimed at altering the photosynthetic pathways of rice. Currently, he is engaged in the 'Anarchist Family Project,' which examines the theories of kinship and family within the North American anarchist movement from the Antebellum period to post-World War II, using a variety of archival materials. Kortright has edited and contributed to several publications that reflect his interests in kinship theory, biological reproduction, and socio-political discourses related to family and eugenics.
