Biography

Chris Lorenz is a Professor in the Department of Engineering at King's College London, specializing in Computational Materials Science. He obtained his combined BS/MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1997 and completed his PhD in 2001 under the supervision of Prof. Robert Ziff, focusing on the applications of percolation theory in chemical engineering. After earning his doctorate, Chris worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Sandia National Laboratories before joining Iowa State University as a research fellow. In 2007, he became a lecturer at King's College London. His research interests lie in molecular and atomistic scale simulations to study mechanical properties in various materials, including biological, colloidal, and ionic systems. He has extensively researched topics such as electrokinetic effects in ionic solutions and the interfacial behavior of water near various surfaces. Furthermore, Chris has contributed significantly to the understanding of the structural properties of self-assembled monolayers and the modeling of insulin injections for managing Type-1 Diabetes Mellitus. His work not only advances knowledge in material science but also aims to address biomedical challenges.
