Biography

Chris Maddison is an assistant professor in the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto, as well as holding a Canada CIFAR Chair in Artificial Intelligence at the Vector Institute. He is recognized as an Open Philanthropy AI Fellow and is one of the founding members of the AlphaGo project at DeepMind. Chris has also been affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He completed his Doctorate (DPhil) at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Arnaud Doucet and Yee Whye Teh. His research has significantly contributed to the fields of computer science and statistics, particularly in the areas concerning Bayesian inference and machine learning. He specializes in statistical computing, with a strong emphasis on deep learning techniques.
