Biography

Chris Meek is a Professor of Architecture at the University of Washington and serves as the Director of the Center for Integrated Design within the College of Built Environments. His research focuses on building energy performance for new constructions and retrofits, daylighting, visual comfort, electric lighting, and climate-responsive design. His work integrates practice, research, and education while fostering collaboration among practitioners, faculty, and students. This work aims to have a substantial impact in several primary areas: developing influential new construction and renovation projects that achieve exceptional energy performance targets to serve as models for future buildings, creating advanced tools and methods that accelerate the development of energy-efficient buildings, and delivering educational experiences designed to nurture the next generation of leaders in the building industry. Over the past decade, Professor Meek has consulted on over 20 million square feet of commercial and institutional buildings, focusing on working, learning, and healing environments, including the net-zero energy Bullitt Center in Seattle. His research is funded by notable organizations such as the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the Illuminating Engineering Society, the Bullitt Foundation, and the American Institute of Architects. Additionally, Professor Meek teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on building design and technology in the Department of Architecture at the University of Washington. In 2020, he was elevated to Fellowship by the American Institute of Architects.
