Chris Parker is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography at the University of the West of England, Bristol. He completed his BSc degree in Geography at the University of Nottingham before pursuing a PhD at the same institution. His PhD thesis focused on developing and evaluating methods to represent river catchment sediment dynamics. Alongside his doctoral research, he gained valuable experience as a scientist in Royal Haskoning's River Coastal Management Division, as well as a researcher at the U.S. National Sedimentation Laboratory in Oxford, Mississippi, and a consultant with Nottingham University Consultants Limited. Since January 2010, he has been a lecturer in physical geography at UWE Bristol's Department of Geography and Environmental Management, where he has taken on the role of programme leader for the BSc Geography degree. His research is driven by a commitment to the academic community’s role in shaping societal responses to dynamic environmental challenges. His principal research interests lie in applied fluvial geomorphology, focusing on aspects such as probabilistic modeling of river bank stability, bed material transport, and catchment-scale sediment dynamics. He also teaches various modules that emphasize river science, management, and research methods, incorporating practical field techniques and software such as Flood Modeller and ArcGIS to predict and assess river conditions.
