Biography

Dr. Chris Simpson is a distinguished professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen's University, with a comprehensive career in cardiology and health policy. Raised in Nackawic, New Brunswick, he initially pursued a degree in BSc from the University of New Brunswick while engaging in music. After obtaining his MD from Dalhousie University, he specialized in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. Since establishing the Heart Rhythm Program at Kingston General Hospital in 1999, Dr. Simpson has held numerous leadership roles, including Professor and Head of Cardiology, and Vice-Dean (Clinical) of Queen’s University Faculty of Health Sciences. His executive experience extends to the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Executive at Ontario Health. Dr. Simpson has a profound interest in health policy, focusing on access to care and medical fitness, and has served in various influential positions, including as President of the Canadian Medical Association. He has authored and co-authored over 350 peer-reviewed papers and has received multiple teaching awards. Additionally, Dr. Simpson is actively involved in community service, supporting local swim and choir programs, and cherishes family time with his children.
