Biography

Chris Tighe has a diverse career spanning 25 years in academic contract research and development within the process industries. As an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, he leads the Process Safety & Intensification (PSI) research group. His teaching focuses on Safety & Loss Prevention, a critical subject that underpins his research agenda. The PSI group tackles challenges associated with chemistry, scale-up, and the engineering of materials safety in industrial processes. Typically, their research involves the use of very high pressures to drive chemical reactions at elevated temperatures, ensuring the safe use of highly reactive intermediates. This work includes conducting fundamental experiments alongside computational methods to gain deeper insights into these processes. Chris is actively involved in mentoring graduate students and supports various academic scholarships and fellowship opportunities for both PhD and post-doctoral candidates.
