Biography

Chris van der Borgh is an Associate Professor of Conflict Studies and coordinator of the MA in Conflict Studies and Human Rights at Utrecht University. His specialization includes issues related to peace, security, political order, and intervention. Van der Borgh's recent research primarily focuses on the security politics in El Salvador, where he has gained extensive field experience as a practitioner and scholar. He has published extensively on the interactions between street gangs, governmental policies at both national and local levels, and grassroots organizations addressing security threats. His recent publications also delve into contentious processes of international intervention and post-war reconstruction, with a particular emphasis on parallel governance and resistance to international statebuilding in Kosovo. Over the past decades, van der Borgh has served as a guest lecturer at various universities, including the University of Copenhagen, the European Peace University of Stadtschlainung, and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has also worked as a consultant for several NGOs.
