Biography

Chris Wallace is a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, with a concurrent role as an Honorary Programme Leader at the MRC Biostatistics Unit since February 2016. Prior to this, he held fellowships at the Wellcome Trust and British Heart Foundation, working at institutions like Queen Mary University of London. His research leverages genomic analysis to enhance the understanding of human autoimmune disease and develops statistical methodologies that facilitate this understanding. He focuses on two primary goals: joint analysis of multiple immune-mediated diseases to understand their shared and distinct risk components, and dissecting cell-specific mechanisms by which genetic variants influence disease risk. Notably, his work incorporates advanced statistical techniques such as Bayesian model averaging and empirical Bayes methods for variable selection in the context of complex genetic datasets. Currently, he leads projects that aim to develop tools for identifying genetic links to diseases and exploring how these are connected to biological pathways. His work is critical in elucidating the mechanisms that underlie autoimmune diseases and identifying potential therapeutic interventions.
