Biography

Chrissy Martin is an interdisciplinary performance artist and movement educator rooted in contemporary dance forms, Afro-Caribbean dance, postmodern experimental music, and vocal jazz. Her research focuses on sharing and co-creating embodied knowledge with students and audiences through curiosity, play, and ritual. Chrissy rigorously examines intersecting queer and neurodivergent identities through her contemporary dance language and voice. She is an avid member of the global contact improvisation community and has studied under Nancy Stark Smith, KJ Holmes, Nita Scott Wells, and Kirstie Simpson. As a facilitator and leader in the Chicago Contact Improvisation Jam, she has taught CI workshops throughout the Midwest. Chrissy has performed with Sarasota Contemporary Dance, Muscle Memory Dance Theatre, Danielle Georgiou Dance Group, Dead White Zombies, and BodyCompass Dance Projects, among others. Somatic practices such as Pilates, GYROTONIC® Expansion System, Body Mind Centering, and Laban/Bartenieff Fundamentals inform her integrated movement style, and she is a certified Pilates and GYROTONIC® instructor.
