Biography

Christel Koop is a Professor of Political Economy at King's College London. Her research focuses on regulation and central banking, economic policy-making at both national and EU levels. She is particularly interested in the independence, accountability, and legitimacy of technocratic decision-making. Christel holds a BA and MPhil degree in Political Science from Leiden University in the Netherlands, and obtained her PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. Before joining King's College London, she was a Fellow in Public Policy Administration at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Christel is currently the principal investigator of an international research project titled 'Reconnecting citizens to the administrative state?' which runs from 2020 to 2023. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on key issues in policy-making and economic regulation. Her recent publications examine various political and regulatory responses within the context of EU governance and institutions, contributing significantly to the understanding of comparative politics and public policy.
