Biography

Christelle Landheer-Cieslak is a full professor at the Faculty of Law of Laval University. She is also a member of the Quebec Bar and the National Committee on Ethics in Aging. With a diverse intellectual background, she has spent over 20 years offering teachings and conferences from distinctive perspectives, publishing numerous articles and books in Canada and Europe. She has received awards and ongoing support from various funding organizations, both national and international. Following her initial training in France at institutions such as the University of Paris II-Panthéon-Assas and the University of Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne, along with her education in Canada at McGill University and the University of Montreal, she specialized in civil law, philosophy, and legal theory. Her current research revolves around two main axes: the relationship between civil law and fundamental rights in a plural, democratic, and secular society; and the role of ethics in drafting and implementing legal texts. Her work has led to the development of a new theoretical and practical perspective for the discipline of law, known as narrative justice, intersecting legal and philosophical hermeneutics, care ethics, and judgment. She collaborates with various scholars and institutions in research aimed at enhancing interdisciplinary dialogue in ethics and law.
