Dr. Christer Nordlund

Biography

Christer Nordlund is a Professor of History of Science and Ideas at Umeå University in Sweden, where he also serves as Dean of the Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on the cultural, material, and intellectual history of science, technology, and medicine from the 1700s onward, primarily in a Scandinavian context. He has explored various subjects within the history of field sciences such as geology, ecology, and archaeology, and has also investigated the historical intersections of endocrinology and the life sciences with industry. Nordlund is particularly interested in environmental history, examining the co-construction of environmental science and politics. He has held several prestigious academic positions, including a Visiting Rausing Scholar and Visiting Fellow at notable institutions. He received his Ph.D. in History of Science and Ideas from Umeå University in 2001 and has held positions of increasing responsibility since then. His publications include numerous articles in scholarly journals and several books, reflecting his extensive engagement with both academic and broader societal discussions on science and technology. Nordlund is a member of various academic societies including the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Young Academy of Sweden, and he actively participates in academic review work and research project coordination.
