Biography

Christian Ahmarani studied medicine at the Université de Montréal and began his specialization in the otolaryngology program at the same university. He decided to enhance his knowledge in facial reconstruction and spent two years in subspecialty training in France. Upon his return, his involvement in research led to the development of the laryngeal implant, which helps restore voice to individuals with vocal cord paralysis. He has conducted extensive research on reconstructive surgery, including mastoid grafts, orbital decompression, nasal valve surgeries, and EMG studies on vocal fatigue, earning several awards for these efforts. His contributions have positioned Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) as a supra-regional referral center for phono-surgery. He has also played a pivotal role as a department head and established a multidisciplinary cranio-maxillofacial surgery unit at HMR. Ahmarani is heavily engaged in university teaching, having led the university ORL program and currently serving as the director of the ORL and cervico-facial surgery division at Université de Montréal. Throughout his career, he has also presided over the Association of ORL and Cervico-Facial Surgery of Quebec and sat on its board of directors for 12 years.
