Biography

Chris Bachmann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo and a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, Master of Applied Science, and PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto, as well as a Master of Business in Entrepreneurship Technology from the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business at the University of Waterloo. Dr. Bachmann's research primarily focuses on transportation systems, travel behavior analysis, sustainable construction material recovery, and transportation economics. He leads the Virtual Mobility Lab, a Canada Foundation for Innovation-funded facility featuring advanced simulations for walking, cycling, and driving. He has collaborated with numerous organizations, including Transport Canada and the Ministry of Transportation Ontario. His teaching spans undergraduate courses in Transportation Engineering Applications and Economics Life Cycle Cost Analysis, as well as graduate-level modeling of transportation and spatial economics. Dr. Bachmann has received several awards for his contributions to teaching and research, including the Fred Burggraf Award from the Transportation Research Board and the Early Researcher Award from the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
