Biography

Christian Beaulieu is a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, where he also holds a cross-appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He is the Scientific Director of the Peter S Allen MRI Research Centre and a Canada Research Chair (Tier 1). His research focuses on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), particularly in the context of neurological disorders and brain imaging. Over the past 30 years, his work has been instrumental in advancing MRI technology to better understand human diseases. His research team is working on innovative imaging methods that aim to detect micro-structural features in the brain that traditional MRI techniques cannot currently measure. This work seeks to address the challenges related to diagnosing conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis. He is actively involved in teaching and mentoring students in MRI and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration across various fields including engineering, biology, and psychology. Beaulieu has received funding from organizations including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Canada.
