Biography

Christian Candrian is a professor specializing in orthopaedic surgery and currently serves as the head of the Traumatology Orthopaedics Unit at Ospedale Regionale di Lugano. He obtained his Master’s degree in Medicine from the University of Zürich in 1998 and subsequently received his surgical qualifications, specifically FMH surgery in 2004 and orthopaedics in 2007. In 2015, he achieved the Venia docendi at the University of Basel and has been a full professor at the University of Lugano since 2019. His academic interests lie primarily in ortho-trauma research. He played a pivotal role in establishing a laboratory for Tissue Engineering in locomotor systems in southern Switzerland and also formed a Clinical Research group for the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Unit at the Regional Hospital of Lugano. Candrian is actively involved in several professional societies, including the Swiss Society of Orthopaedics and the International Cartilage Repair Society, among others. He has authored over 50 publications in high-impact scientific journals, contributing significantly to advancements in his field.
