Biography

Christian Catalini is a Research Scientist at MIT Sloan School and the founder of the MIT Cryptoeconomics Lab. He co-created Diem, previously known as Libra, and served as the chief economist for the Diem Association. Prior to this role, Christian held the position of Theodore T. Miller Career Development Professor at MIT and was an Associate Professor of Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategic Management at MIT Sloan School. His research primarily focuses on blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, and he has also explored the economics of equity crowdfunding and startup growth, as well as the economics of scientific collaboration. With a PhD from the University of Toronto and an MSc in Economics and Management of New Technologies from Bocconi University in Milan, Christian's work has been featured in prominent publications including Nature, Science, and the New York Wall Street Journal. He has presented at leading institutions such as Harvard University and Stanford University, and has engaged with various regulatory bodies including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the World Bank. Through his research and executive education programs, he aims to demystify blockchain technology and explore its economic implications for businesses.
