Biography

Christian B. Hansen is the Wallace W. Booth Professor of Econometrics and Statistics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He currently serves as the academic coordinator for Booth's Sokolov Executive MBA Program and is the co-editor of the Journal of Political Economy focusing on Microeconomics. Hansen's research primarily revolves around applied theoretical econometrics, employing high-dimensional statistical methods for economic applications. He has made significant contributions in areas such as estimation of panel data models, inference using clustered standard errors, quantile regression, and tackling weak instruments. Recently, his research has engaged with the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence to estimate causal policy effects. Hansen's influential work is published in top-tier journals within economics and statistics, including the American Economic Review and Econometrica. He is a recipient of the Neubauer Family Faculty Fellowship and has secured research grants from the National Science Foundation. Hansen completed his undergraduate degree in economics at Brigham Young University in 2000 and earned his PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2004, where he was also a graduate research fellow from the National Science Foundation. He has been a faculty member at Chicago Booth since 2004.
