Christian Hedberg is a Professor of Organic Chemistry at Umeå University. Originally from Boden, Sweden, he pursued his studies in chemistry at Uppsala University, where he developed a strong foundation in organic chemistry. In 2005, he completed his PhD focusing on homogeneous catalysis, notably pioneering mechanism-driven design and the development of P,N ligands for enantioselective Ir-catalyzed hydrogenation under the guidance of Prof. Pher Andersson. Following this, Hedberg was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship, allowing him to join the Max-Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology as part of Prof. Herbert Waldmann's research group in chemical biology. In 2008, he took on the role of junior group leader at Max-Planck, marking the start of his independent academic career. After receiving the Wallenberg Academy Fellow award in 2013, he transitioned to Umeå University as a senior lecturer. By 2020, he was promoted to full professor and continues to lead research focused on synthetic organic chemistry within a biological context, aiming to understand the mechanisms of intracellular pathogens.
