Professor Dr. Christian Hilber

Biography

Christian Hilber is a professor at the London School of Economics, currently serving as the Deputy Head of the Department (Teaching) and an associate at the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP). He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Basel, Switzerland, in 1998, following an MSc in Business Economics in 1994. Before joining LSE in 2003, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and as an economist at Fannie Mae. His research focuses on urban economics, real estate, and housing, with a particular emphasis on local public finance and political economy. His current projects address important issues such as housing and land supply, land use regulation, homeownership, property price determination, and agglomeration economies. He has published extensively in prestigious journals, including the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Economic Journal, and the Journal of Urban Economics. In addition to his academic contributions, he has served on various editorial boards and held significant positions within the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association. His work has been referenced in major media outlets, reflecting his prominent role in discussions on housing and urban economics.
