Biography

Professor Christian Jirauschek specializes in theoretical computational photonics with a focus on modeling lasers and nano-optoelectronic devices. His current research activities include applications in biomedical optics, metrology, ultrafast optics, and the design of nanostructured photonic devices, particularly quantum cascade lasers in the terahertz and infrared regime. Professor Jirauschek studied electrical engineering, majoring in electrooptics and optical communications, at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) where he completed his degree in 2000 and received his doctoral degree in 2004. From 2002 to 2005, he worked at the Research Laboratory of Electronics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the Technical University of Munich in 2007 and headed the Emmy Noether research group until 2015 when he held the Heisenberg Professorship. In 2021, he became an Associate Professor in Computational Photonics. Professor Jirauschek's extensive contributions to the field have garnered multiple awards, including the Heisenberg Professorship from the German Research Foundation in 2015 and the Emmy Noether Fellowship in 2007.
