Dr. Christian Lammert

Biography

Christian Lammert is a Professor of Political Science specializing in North American Politics and Policy at the John F. Kennedy Institute of Freie Universität Berlin. He has held this position since 2012 after initially joining the JFKI as a Guest Professor in 2010. His academic career is rooted in his Ph.D. from Goethe University, obtained in 2002. Lammert's expertise covers topics such as Income and Wealth Inequality, State-Market Relations, Social Health Policy, and Democracy with a particular focus on transatlantic perspectives. His research critically examines advanced welfare regimes and the redistribution of economic resources through tax and transfer systems. He has authored several significant books, including "The Promise of Equality: Legitimacy and Boundaries of Democracy." Lammert is also heavily involved in academic associations, serving as the President of the German Association for American Studies and as a board member for various foundations advancing transatlantic academic relations. His commitment to fostering understanding between the U.S. and Germany is evident in his extensive teaching at the university level, engaging students in critical discussions about political polarization, health care reform, and the implications of inequality in democratic societies.
