Biography

Professor Christian Liedtke specializes in Algebraic Geometry, focusing on the classification of algebraic surfaces, particularly K3 surfaces and surfaces of general type in positive characteristic. His research also encompasses elliptic curves and fibrations, as well as fundamental groups and the construction of rational curves. He began his mathematics studies at the University of Göttingen and completed them at the University of Warwick, graduating in 2001 under the supervision of Professor Catanese. Following his graduation, he pursued doctoral studies at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn under Professor Faltings, earning his doctorate in 2004. Professor Liedtke has held roles as a research assistant at the University of Düsseldorf and conducted research at Stanford University, where he was a recipient of a DFG scholarship. He achieved his habilitation in 2011, was appointed as Associate Professor in 2013, and became a Tenure Track Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Munich in 2017, later becoming a Full Professor in 2022. In addition to his teaching and research, he served as vice dean and research dean in the Department of Mathematics at TUM during 2018-2022.
