Biography

Christian Malapit is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Northwestern University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Far Eastern University, Philippines (2005), a Master of Science from Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines (2009), and a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut (2016). He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan (2019) and is currently a NIH Pathway Independence Fellow at the University of Utah (2021-2025). His research focuses on synthetic chemistry with particular interests in organic chemistry, organometallic catalysis, and synthetic electrochemistry. Malapit is dedicated to developing new reaction mechanisms that enhance the sustainability of synthetic chemistry and energy systems. His work emphasizes the rational design of transition-metal catalysts and the innovative use of electrochemistry to convert readily available starting materials into value-added products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and energy-storing molecules.
