Biography

Christian Nadeau teaches the history of political ideas and contemporary moral and political philosophy in the Department of Philosophy at the Université de Montréal. Following studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal, he defended a thesis in political philosophy at Paris-X (Nanterre) in December 2000. After postdoctoral research on neo-republicanism under the direction of Daniel Weinstock at the Université de Montréal, he became a professor in the same department in June 2002. His research focuses on pluralism in democracy, collective responsibility, social rights, and social movements. He also works in the field of ethics and environmental political philosophy, and has published on just war theories and transitional justice. He served as editor of the journal Philosophiques from 2011 to 2020 and directs, with Julie Saada, the collection PolitiqueS at Classiques Garnier.
