Biography

Christian Nixon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Brown University. He earned his MD and PhD from Brown University in 2008. Following his education, he completed residencies in clinical anatomic pathology at the University of California at San Francisco and Yale Medical School, as well as a blood bank fellowship through a Joint Program in Transfusion Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Nixon joined the faculty in 2014 and currently serves as an attending physician on the Transfusion Medicine and Coagulation Service at Rhode Island Hospital. His research interests include immuno-epidemiology of malaria, with a focus on identifying and developing novel vaccine candidates against malaria. The Nixon laboratory's research aims to elucidate the roles of cellular effector mechanisms in vaccine targeting and to guide immune-epidemiology studies leading to vaccine trials. His work has involved the application of modern geographical information systems for identifying risk factors in hypo- and mesoendemic areas, particularly in eastern Indonesia. Nixon is committed to advancing malaria vaccine research and is actively engaged in identifying new targets for effective multi-stage vaccine development.
