After completing undergraduate studies in Mathematics Engineering in Paris and Hanover, Dr. Christian Onof undertook PhD research at Imperial College London and became a lecturer in 1994. His primary research area focuses on stochastic modeling of rainfall fields, hydrological simulations, and flood design, with particular emphasis on fine time-scales. He is engaged in developing downscaling tools to assess the impact of climate change on hydrological variables and is investigating the use of statistical machine learning tools for forecasting convective rainfall. Dr. Onof has supervised PhD students and his teaching revolves around Systems Engineering and Mathematical Modeling techniques. He has initiated new lecture courses in Statistics (MEng Year II), Operational Research (MEng Year IV), and Stochastic Hydrology (MSc). Dr. Onof has lectured on numerous undergraduate courses and has taught a course in optimization at École des Ponts ParisTech as part of the European Athens Network. He has also served as the Course Director for the MSc program in Systems Engineering Innovation and actively promotes student exchange programs, having been instrumental in establishing new exchanges with universities in Melbourne, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Barcelona, Queensland, and California.
