Biography

Christian Wolf is the Director of the Siding Spring Observatory at the Australian National University (ANU). He completed his PhD at the Max-Planck-Institute of Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany, in January 1999. Subsequently, he held a position as a Research Fellow at MPIA Heidelberg and led the COMBO-17 survey. From 2001 to 2013, he worked at the University of Oxford, UK, where he was an STFC Advanced Fellow from 2004 to 2009. He joined the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics at ANU in 2013, and from 2016 to 2018, he served as the ANU Node Leader for the ARC Centre of Excellence in All-sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO). His research interests primarily focus on the growth of supermassive black holes in the early universe, the properties of accretion discs around these black holes, and various sky surveys aimed at object classification and photometric redshift estimation. Over the years, he has been involved in numerous projects related to wide-field optical telescope surveys and the evolution of galaxies, and has supervised multiple graduate students in these areas.
