Biography

Christina S. Bottaro is a Professor and Department Head at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has a PhD from Dalhousie University and a BSc with honors from St. Mary's University. Her research focuses on developing new methods and techniques for the rapid and sensitive analysis of organic and environmental pollutants. Bottaro’s work includes exploiting multi-dimensional selectivity using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for selective material uptake, coupled with desorption ionization mass spectrometry methods. She is involved in the analysis of a wide range of environmental pollutants, including petroleum-related pollutants and drinking-water contaminants. Her recent projects also explore new methods for analyzing polar analytes, particularly in the context of mining industrial processes.
