Christina Chakanyuka is an Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria's School of Nursing. She is a cis-gender Métis mother with roots in Dene, Cree, and Métis (Treaty 8) homelands of Fort Smith, NT. Christina has strong familial ties to the Villebrun and Gladue families of Thebacha Athabasca, as well as a lineage from her father's ninth-generation Scottish-Canadian settler family. She brings expertise in Indigenous health nursing research, nursing education, community health, human rights, intergenerational mentorship, anti-racism, cultural safety, and cultural humility. She also serves as a research intern in the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Indigenous Health Research Nursing chair lead by Dr. Lisa Bourque Bearskin, where she co-leads an intergenerational Indigenous mentorship circle.
