Biography

Christina Hansen has been a lecturer at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning since 2013. She teaches graduate design studios focusing on housing, institutions, regional environmental design, and integrated systems. As a principal partner at the Detroit-based VolumeOne Design Studio, an award-winning international practice, she specializes in architectural urban design projects across the United States, Europe, and China. Since its founding in 2011, VolumeOne has gained recognition for its work in housing, educational, cultural, commercial, institutional, hospitality, and urban design at various scales. Hansen, who has been a designer and project manager, emphasizes urban design strategies, integrated building design, and contemporary mixed-use typologies with environmentally responsible approaches. Prior to her role at VolumeOne, she accumulated valuable professional experience from 1998 with firms such as B5 Architekten and Studio Daniel Libeskind in Berlin, Zago Architecture, and Luckenbach-Ziegelman Architects in addition to Hamilton-Anderson Associates in Detroit. Christina received her education from Technical University of Kaiserslautern and Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee, ultimately earning a master's degree in architecture (Dipl.-Ing) from the University of Hanover in Germany.
