Dr. Christina Hoicka

Biography

Christina Hoicka is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Victoria and holds a Canada Research Chair in Urban Planning and Climate Change. Her research primarily focuses on energy geography, justice in low-carbon energy transitions, and the socio-technical approaches to the diffusion of low-carbon innovations. Additionally, she is engaged in work related to renewable energy systems and the development of sustainable cities. Hoicka leads the Re-imagining Social Energy Transitions (ReSET) CoLaboratory, which explores the emergence and clustering of low-carbon renewable energy innovations and energy citizenship. With a commitment to integrating student-centered methodologies in her teaching, she emphasizes problem-solving and active learning. She has received education credentials from esteemed institutions, including a PhD from the University of Waterloo, a Master's from York University, and a Bachelor of Engineering from McGill University.
