Biography

Christina Kraus is the Thomas Thacher Professor of Latin at Yale University, where she also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Classics. She received her BA from Princeton University and her PhD from Harvard University. Prior to her appointment at Yale in the summer of 2004, she taught at New York University, University College London, and the University of Oxford. Her research interests lie in ancient historiography, Latin prose style, and the theory and practice of commentaries. Kraus is a member of the Program in Early Modern Studies and has advised various projects, including the Historians of Rome (funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, University of Edinburgh) and 'Imperialism and Roman Historical Writing' (Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education funded project). She is also co-founder of the Yale Initiative for the Study of Antiquity and the Premodern World, now known as ARCHAIA. Her selected publications reflect her expertise in Latin historiography and include works on iconic figures such as Caesar, Livy, and Tacitus. She has been recognized for her contributions to the field through lectures and editorial roles in significant series related to classical scholarship.
