Biography

Professor Christina Li's research program focuses on catalysis, particularly the development of new catalysts to address critical challenges in energy utilization and CO2 waste management. Her work aims to fundamentally change the way carbon-based fuels are utilized and to find sustainable methods for handling CO2 emissions. Professor Li is particularly interested in the development of metal alloys, mixed-metal oxides, and chalcogenide frameworks that can be engineered with tunable defect chemistry. This allows the creation of unique surface properties that enhance the activation of C-H bonds and the adsorption of CO2. Her major research focus involves building structure-activity relationships from complex defect surfaces, which help elucidate general principles of heterogeneous activation. In her laboratory, students gain hands-on experience in solid-state nanomaterial synthesis, heterogeneous catalysis, and electrochemistry, employing a variety of spectroscopy and microscopy techniques for materials characterization.
