Biography

Professor Christina Liossi is a paediatric psychologist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton, where she also serves as an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Psychologist at the Paediatric Chronic Pain Clinic at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust, London. Christina has experience in caring for children with chronic medical conditions, including cancer, cystic fibrosis, chronic kidney disease, epidermolysis bullosa, and sickle cell disease. She is regarded as one of the world experts in paediatric pain. Her research interests lie at the intersection of clinical practice and cognitive-affective neuroscience of pain, particularly focusing on the emotional modulation of attention in chronic pain and the development of theory-driven psychological interventions for managing both acute and chronic pain in young people. Christina is currently involved in cognitive bias modification training and the evaluation of cognitive-behavioural interventions for pain management in young people. She has conducted randomized controlled clinical trials to establish hypnosis as an evidence-based intervention for children with cancer. Christina has also contributed to national and international guidelines for the management of acute and chronic paediatric pain. Additionally, she actively serves as a mentor for doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in her field.
