Biography

Christina Stojanova is a Professor in the Department of Film at the University of Regina, where she has been teaching since 2006. She is a media historian focusing on cultural semiotics and Canadian multicultural cinema. Her research interests include audio-visual media, particularly in relation to Québec and Central Eastern European cinema, as well as inter-war German cinema. Stojanova has contributed to the understanding of legacies in the works of Jean-Luc Godard, employing an interdisciplinary theoretical grid that includes theories of gender, genre, new media narrative theory, and philosophical analytical-psychological approaches, including neo-Jungian perspectives. She is an internationally recognized expert and has served as a consultant for academic competitions and a jury member for over twenty international film festivals. Stojanova has curated twelve national and international film retrospectives in Canada and abroad. She currently serves on the editorial boards of Rodopi Publishing House in Amsterdam and international refereed journals such as Studies in Eastern Europe Cinema and Ekphrasis. She has contributed to acclaimed academic publications, including the co-edited volumes Wittgenstein Movies and Legacies of Jean-Luc Godard, and is currently working on a monograph about Canadian animator Caroline Leaf.
