Biography

Christine Bernier is a professor in the Department of Art History and Cinema Studies at the Université de Montréal. Specializing in contemporary art and museology, she has been the director of the Museology Program at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences since 2016. She oversees the 'Art+' collection at the Presses de l’Université de Montréal. Bernier is a regular member of the Intermedial Research Center on Arts, Letters, and Techniques (CRIalt) and the Interuniversity Research Center on Digital Humanities (CRIHN), where she co-directs the research axis focused on digital recontextualization. Her work encompasses a wide variety of research areas including visual culture practices, current artistic practices and mediation, the art market, and cultural economics. Bernier has also contributed significantly to the exploration of virtual exhibitions and the history of exhibitions. She has received awards for excellence in teaching at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 2016 and has been involved in numerous research projects and directed studies related to art and climate change, as well as the challenges of contemporary museum practices.
