Biography

Christine Breiner is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Brown University, where she specializes in geometric analysis and partial differential equations. Her research encompasses minimal and constant mean curvature surfaces, harmonic maps, and their intersection with differential geometry, analysis, and topology. Breiner's recent work focuses on harmonic maps in singular spaces with positive curvature. She has received a National Science Foundation CAREER grant for her research on variational problems in geometric analysis and has been honored with the SIMONS Travel Grant from the American Mathematical Society. Breiner has previously held positions as an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University. She has been recognized for her outstanding teaching, receiving the William Kelso Morrill Teaching Award in 2005. She is passionate about teaching and mathematics, aiming to inspire students and create a supportive learning environment. Breiner is currently the lead organizer for the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute’s Spring 2022 Hot Topics workshop. She holds a PhD and an MA in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University.
