Dr. Christine Chinkin

Biography

Christine M. Chinkin is a respected scholar in public international law, alternative dispute resolution, international criminal law, and international human rights, particularly focusing on women’s human rights and the intersection of feminist jurisprudence with international law. As the director of the Centre for Women, Peace, and Security at the London School of Economics and Political Science, she has significantly contributed to the academic discourse on human rights. Chinkin has previously served as the dean of the law faculty at the University of Southampton and has been a member of the law faculty at the University of Sydney. She has held prestigious guest lecturer positions at various institutions including the National University of Singapore and Columbia University. Her notable publications include works on the framework of international law, commentaries on the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and various feminist analyses of international law. Chinkin’s dedication to advancing human rights was recognized when she received the Goler T. Butcher Medal from the American Society of International Law for her services in this domain. Additionally, she has been a member of the Kosovo Human Rights Advisory Panel, furthering her commitment to advocating for human rights in conflict-affected areas.
