Biography

Christine Ekholst is a Swedish and Canadian historian specializing in the Middle Ages. She studies disability in medieval Sweden and is involved in research concerning executions and execution sites during the same period. At Uppsala University, she primarily teaches courses for exchange students and serves as the Erasmus coordinator for the Faculty of Arts. Ekholst obtained her M.A. in history in 2002 and her Ph.D. in history in 2009, both from Stockholm University. Her postdoctoral experience includes fellowships at Caltech in Pasadena, USA, and McGill University in Montreal, Canada. During her tenure at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, she worked as an instructor in Women's and Gender Studies and served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Guelph's Department of History from 2011 to 2017. Since 2018, she has held the position of Associate Professor of Medieval History at Uppsala University. Her publications include significant works on gender, punishment, and crime in Swedish medieval law, and her recent research includes a project funded by the Scientific Council of Sweden exploring perceptions of history in internet forums related to democracy and higher education.
