Dr. Christine Hayes

Biography

Christine Elizabeth Hayes is a Visiting Professor at Yale Law School, where she teaches Law during the spring term. She is a Sterling Professor Emerita of Religious Studies and Jewish Studies at Yale University and a research scholar at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. In her distinguished career, Hayes has held several notable appointments, including Gruss Visiting Professor of Talmudic Civil Law at Harvard University Law School and Gruss Visiting Professor of Jewish Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. She has also taught in a visiting capacity at Tel Aviv University Law School and Reichman University Law School. Hayes's research and teaching primarily focus on Talmudic Studies and Legal Theory. She is the author of 'What’s Divine About Divine Law? Early Perspectives', published by Princeton University Press in 2015, among various other books, edited volumes, anthologies, translations, and academic publications. In addition to her academic contributions, she has received honorary doctorates from Lund University in Sweden and the Jewish Theological Seminary in America.
