Dr. Christine Heitsch

Biography

Christine Heitsch is a Professor in the School of Mathematics at Georgia Tech, where she focuses on the intersection of discrete mathematics and molecular biology. Her research is primarily concerned with combinatorial problems, particularly those with applications to fundamental biomedical questions such as RNA folding. As the Director of the Southeast Center for Mathematics and Biology and the NSF-Simons MathBioSys Research Center, she oversees numerous projects that integrate mathematics and biology. Heitsch has been instrumental in developing graduate programs in discrete mathematical biology, bioinformatics, and computational science, enabling students to pursue advanced studies in these fields. Under her guidance, many doctoral candidates have successfully completed their degrees involving complex mathematical modeling and biophysical analyses. Christine's research program is notably funded by the NIH, showcasing her contributions to scientific knowledge.
