Christine Kim is a Professor and the Associate Head (Research) in the Department of English Language and Literatures at the University of British Columbia. She is a faculty affiliate of UBC's Asian Canadian Studies and Asian Migration program (ACAM) and has been editor-in-chief of the journal Canadian Literature from 2020 to 2025. Christine joined UBC in 2020 after teaching at Simon Fraser University, where she was a founding co-director of the Institute of Transpacific Cultural Research. Her research and teaching interests include Asian diaspora, the Cold War, imperialism, and race. She authored the book 'Minor Intimacies: Race' published by the University of Illinois Press in 2016 and co-edited 'Cultural Grammars: Nation, Diaspora, Indigeneity' in 2012. Her forthcoming book, 'Brutal Fantasies: Imagining North Korea in the Long Cold War', examines the cultural representations of North Korea and how they reflect Western fantasies. Christine is currently working on a project that examines literary and filmic representations of Korean diasporas and migrations in illiberal spheres.
