Biography

Christine Massing is a Professor in Early Childhood Education at the University of Regina, where she also serves as Associate Dean, Academic & Student Experience in the Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research. Her research primarily focuses on the experiences of immigrant and refugee teachers and student teachers, exploring the disjunctions within the westernized dominant discourse of early childhood education and the integration of their own culturally constructed knowledges, beliefs, and values. She is involved in a research team investigating the ways globalization and colonization influence the inclusion and exclusion of local, indigenous knowledges and practices in the context of teacher education across different countries such as Canada, Colombia, and Namibia. Christine's research interests also encompass ethnography, professional identity construction, instructional strategies, teacher beliefs, and the engagement of immigrant and refugee families in early childhood settings, as well as cross-cultural play and parent-child interactions.
