Biography

Christine O'Bonsawin is an Abenaki scholar from the Odanak Nation, specializing in Indigenous History, Colonialism, Decolonization, and Sport Olympic History. Her interdisciplinary scholarly training encompasses History and Sociocultural Studies in Kinesiology, along with extensive teaching experience in History, Indigenous Studies, and Social Justice Studies. Her research interests focus on Indigenous histories, colonialism, and decolonization, particularly examining the role of sport in the lives of Indigenous peoples. Recent scholarship addresses the experiences of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals in sport, as well as legal and political land rights issues concerning Indigenous peoples in the context of major sporting events, such as the Olympic Games, held on unceded Indigenous territories.
